Although more and more enterprises, due to the economically challenging
times, are cutting costs, HOB GmbH & Co. KG is counting
on innovation and development:
With the purchase of an SGI Altix 450
supercomputer HOB is making a strong investment in a
successful future.
To achieve the ambitious goal of running 800 Windows 7 operating systems with HOBVM und VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) in parallel on this high-tech machine, the SGI Altix 450 is being equipped with 38 Intel Itanium CPUs with 76 cores and 854 gigabytes main memory. The new supercomputer is being used for performance- and load-testing of HOB server software such as VDI and remote access for many concurrent users. With the support of VD technology client Windows systems like Windows 7/ Vista are virtualized in the computer center. Access is made via RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol).
The SGI Altix 450 supercomputer is a sensible extension of the existing network in HOB's central office, which currently comprises about 80 servers from all the leading manufacturers with widely varying architectures and operating systems.
