New program elements and tools of the established PC Host Connectivity Software HOBLink 3270 allow central administration, configuration and worldwide distribution of the software.
Right on time the German IT organization HOB residing in Zirndorf has announced the new release of its renowned HOBLink 3270.
The new tools "HOBLink Distribution" and "HOBLink Services", enhanced country specific keyboard support as well as French version enable European and worldwide use of the software made in Zirndorf, which facilitate PC access to the IBM Mainframe.
Additionally included in the new release package is a VT525 emulation - HOBLink VT525, downward compatible with VT52 to attach to UNIX and DEC computers.
The new central program element "HOB Distribution" is part of HOBLink 3270 and enables system administrators to create a central preconfiguration, administration and finally a worldwide "unattended install" of the emulation on PCs from now on. By considering location specific structures, all configurable values such as connection type, screen sessions, printer sessions, keyboard and mouse settings, predefined file transfer lists and user specific icons can be configured user based or workgroup based.
The destination installation path of the destination PC is also included. By clicking the installed HOBLink Profile (Setup file) the user runs the automatic installation.
The HOBLink Profile can be distributed e.g. via Microsoft SMS (Systems Management Server) using the Internet or Intranet, e-mail as attachment, electronic mail systems or by storing it on a server.
"HOBLink Service" makes working with the host user-friendly and more efficient. The emulation can now be controlled by a tray displayed in the task bar. HOBLink 3270 fulfills Microsoft Office standards.
Beyond the keyboard support was enhanced by five languages: Russian, Greek, Dutch, Spanish and French Swiss. This covers the main European character sets including the Scandinavian countries.
Supporting a wide range of connection types currently used in the market make HOBLink 3270 a solution not missing a single connectivity wish.
If HOBLink 3270 is combined with HOBCOM, another development made by HOB, the administrator has a high performance Host Software product on hand which includes a lot of extras such as consistent data encryption from the PC to the host, data compression and TCP/IP print without additional gateways being required. Using HOBCOM is especially recommended for IBM Mainframes in association with Intranet and Intranet.
HOBLink 3270 supports all usual protocols and connections types such as IEEE 802.2, COAX CUT/DFT, 3270 over APPC/APPN, LUA, TN3270E, X.25, X.25 over ISDN, SDLC. New is the connection type AutoSync modem. The supported gateways among others are NetWare for SAA and MS SNA servers. Further HOBLink 3270 supplies a SNA Stack (HOB APPC) as default.
HOBLink 3270 4.2 facilitates displaying and editing host masks according to Windows default in guified format. The HOB Scheduler allows you to run all relevant applications by means of a timer control. The timer control provides settings to run applications at a certain daytime or initializes an application in certain intervals on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
Tedious procedures to log on to the host and creating corresponding macros are no longer required with the new function "Host Screen Surfing". All logon procedures and host masks are recorded only once, stored as a "bookmark" and selected on-line with a mouseclick. Recording the macro the user password is automatically encrypted and is reserved for use on the originating PC. Encrypted user passwords cannot even be disassembled using a tracer.
Novell NDS supports (NetWare Directory Services) allows reading and using the system configuration found in the NetWare Administrator immediately. Configuring workstations individually becomes superfluous.
The German IT organization HOB GmbH & Co. KG resident in Zirndorf was founded in 1964. Back in 1981 the organization has strategically focused on developing and manufacturing platform and protocol independent PC Host and Network Connectivity solutions. HOB's latest development, HOBLink J-Term, written in the platform independent and object oriented programming language Java, allows worldwide host data access to IBM and UNIX via Internet/Intranet from every PC or Thin Client.
HOB is represented by foreign branches in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and in Austria. Beyond that HOB maintains two sales offices in the USA and two developing organizations in Malta and Moscow.
