Servant is the master of the host
PC as a work station for editing and processing IBM host data locally
Zirndorf, 17. February 1999. The PC-Host Connectivity specialists from HOB, located in Zirndorf, enhance their range of connectivity software by the new HOBLink RJE V.1.2 for Windows.
The 32 Bit software for Win 95/98 and Windows NT allows using every PC as RJE data station. RJE is a protocol developed by IBM (Remote Job Entry), which controls the data exchange between central host and work station.
Franz Wiedenmann, Distribution and Marketing Manager at HOB, comments HOBLink RJE as follows: "HOBLink RJE continues enhancing our comprehensive range of connectivity software. This new software mainly addresses to large enterprises, which still hold a remarkable amount of legacy data. For a price of app. 370 $ HOBLink RJE provides an opportunity to these enterprises to economically edit their legacy data on a PC via remote connection."
HOBLink RJE supports host operating systems such as IBM's VM, VSE, MVS and OS/390 with the corresponding JOB entry systems VM/RSCS, VSE/POWER, MVS/JES2 and MVS/JES3.
Up to now enterprises had to invest a lot of money for remote job processing and were forced to acquire expensive systems such as an IBM 3777-3 work station, S/36 or an AS/400, that required intensive maintenance. HOBLink RJE is to provide more flexibility at reduced costs. The software accurately emulates a 3770 work station providing all functions and thus allows using an existing PC as RJE work station. Console, reader, puncher and printer, the conventional RJE components are integral part of a comfortable graphical user interface. Jobs to be executed from the remote host can be created on the PC in advance, are getting processed on the host and their results can be forwarded to every printer that is available under Windows. Additionally the HOBLink RJE workstation allows saving the host data in a file on the PC or its processing via the spool system. A console window allows permanent monitoring each single host task. All messages are logged in a protocol.
The communication between PC and Mainframe is done via SNA. Requirement: an SNA sub system must be installed on the PC, e.g. MS SNA Server, IBM Personal Communications or NetWare for SAA as well as 95/98/NT default hardware. Optionally the HOBLink SNA Stack is provided by HOB as SNA sub system. HOBLink RJE supports Token Ring, Ethernet, X.25, SDLC and ISDN.
The new software version is debuting on the CeBIT from 18 to 24 March at our stand F22 in the exhibition hall 11.
