Cadolzburg, 18 August 2010 – Since the release of the previous version of HOB RD VPN for secure remote access to enterprise data and applications, as well as to individual desktop PCs, there have been many new developments: The new SSL-VPN HOB RD VPN 1.4 has many interesting new functionalities.
The most important features of a modern SSL-VPN solution are: It must be fully functional on any conventional computer without having to install it or any drivers on the client device and without the user needing administrator rights. With such a solution, users can access all the data they are authorized to on the enterprise network as well as gain full access to their own desktop PC data with all their user-specific applications, settings and configurations - from any Internet-capable computer in the world. Authentication is made using either user-ID and password, tokens, or certificates on Smartcards, meeting the strictest demands on IT security.
HOB RD VPN with the WTS Computing module provides secure remote access to Windows Terminal Servers, via the Web File Access the user has access to all file servers and the Web Server Gate provides company-internal Web applications to the client device.
"With the new Version 1.4, we have greatly extended HOB RD VPN," explained HOB's CEO Klaus Brandstätter. The PPP Tunnel, specially developed for this SSL-VPN solution, provides full access to the enterprise network, bringing the advantages of SSL-VPNs and IPsec-VPNs together. "We believe there is a great customer demand for this, as IPsec solutions are much more complicated to install and require regular updates as well as the installation of drivers on the client devices. That is time-consuming and expensive . With the PPP Tunnel we provide a sensible alternative to quickly and easily replace IPsec VPNs," continued Mr. Brandstätter.
HOB RD VPN 1.4 NetAccess is an inexpensive new solution that offers full network access using technology based on the PPP Tunnel. It is available for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X and FreeBSD.
"The new Anti Split Tunneling function provides additional security gain. It prevents users from accessing public or private networks other than the corporate network to which they are connected via HOB RD VPN. For small and mid-sized companies, we also have an inexpensive compact version," remarked Mr. Brandstätter on the additional functions.
Another security performance characteristic is the Smartcard support for the widely used PKCS#11 port for Linux and Windows, which can be used immediately without any additional software installation.
Especially interesting for administrators: HOB RD VPN 1.4 has new logging and reporting tools, which greatly simplify fault analysis: One click on the reporting link in the GUI automatically opens the log file with all the important information.
